Did you see the fake poster for the upcoming Mean Moms movie? Fans of Rosalind Wiseman, whose books inspired both Mean Girls and this, were notably excited – a post with the fake poster got thousands of retweets. But while New Line Cinema confirmed to Variety that Jennifer Aniston will star in the film, Sandra Bullock and Cameron Diaz are not attached to the project. (Sorry!)
It looks like the Mean Moms movie is still waiting for a director, but the plot has been nailed down: A happily married mother of two moves from small town America to the high class suburbs and is faced with confronting the cut throat world of competitive parenting.
To that, I say hmmmm. Do we really need another piece of media putting the mean mom stereotype out there like it’s the norm? I already meet too many new moms who are terrified to go to moms’ groups and community activities for families because they’ve heard it’s a mom-eat-mom world out there. Is parenting competitive? Sometimes, but more often than not I see moms supporting and helping each other – not tearing each other down.
What do you think? Are you excited for the Mean Moms movie or will you give it a pass?
